Red Velvet Oreo Poke Cake

I cannot believe that it is almost Valentine’s Day.  What is everyone doing for Valentine’s Day?  We don’t have any set plans yet, but we usually go out for dinner on one of the weekends near Valentine’s Day, whenever we can get one of our parents to watch our son.  Because we don’t actually go out on the actual day, we will usually make a nice dinner and make a decadent dessert. One of my favorite desserts to make is poke cake.  You can’t get much more decadent than that in a dessert that is so easy to make. Poke Cakes are so easy to make because they start out with a box cake mix and then just add sweetened condensed milk and other toppings.  I love how easy they are to make and everyone thinks that I spent hours in the kitchen making the cake.

Red Velvet Oreo Poke Cake

Ingredients
  1. 1 box (18.25 ounces) red velvet cake + the ingredients on the back of the box
  2. 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  3. 1 jar (11.75 ounces) hot fudge ice cream topping
  4. 1 cup crushed Oreos
  5. 1 cup cream cheese frosting (I used the ready made frosting)
  6. 1 container (8 ounces) Cool Whip
  7. 1/4 cup crushed Oreos (optional topping)

Instructions
  • Prepare the red velvet cake according to the directions on the box.
  • Once the cake is completely cooled, use a wooden spoon to poke holes evenly throughout the cake, making about 25-30 holes.
  • Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, trying to fill up the holes.
  • Combine the hot fudge topping and the crushed Oreos in a medium sized bowl. Microwave the combined toppings for 15 seconds or until melted together and warm.
